Moore’s Table Update
Thanks to Jimmy Barry for sending on a photo and location update for a large rock and viewpoint called Moore’s Rock. This is located in the Bansha Woods area above Aherlow Castle. It’s marked incorrectly on the current prints of our popular Galtee 1:25,000 map, so update your copy as required.
The Moores of Mooresfort were a principal landowner in the area in the 19th Century, living to the north of Slievenamuck. Aherlow Castle on the south side seems to have been built by Butlers around 1830 and later acquired by the Moore family. A hunting lodge I think and location for pleasure drives over the hills here. I’d imagine that Moore’s Table was a regular stopping point on these jaunts.
