Jamesie’s Well & Leana Loops
If you have a copy of our Wild Nephin 1:25,000 scale map, take note of this update. Two new loop walks are being developed by the Wild Nephin National Park, Jamesie’s Well Loop & Leana_Loop. Update: as of end of July 2024, Jamesie’s Well Loop is finished and marked. The Leana Loop is not fully marked but will be completed in the next few weeks,
These lie just to the east of the popular Letterkeen Walks at the head of Lough Feeagh. Jamesie’s Well Loop is 10 kms and will take you about 3 hours, including a stop at the natural springs called Jamesie’s Well, marked at 1 on the map here. The water here is said to be good for kidney complaints so bring your bottles. The Leana Loop extends onwards and upwards for an extra 3 kms and allow an extra hour for this. This path also facilitates access for hillwalkers and exits onto the hill near Birreen Corrough.
Another update to note is the position and entrance track to McCann’s Bothy, marked at 2 on the map here. This may suit those who need to bivvy for the night whilst travelling in the area. Thanks to Michael Chambers & Mariusz Zaremba for information on these loops.
