Charles Thompson group on the summit of Mullaghcleevaun on 25th April 1915. It’s sobering to reflect that elsewhere in Europe on that day, Irishmen from the Dublin & Munster Fusiliers were dying in large numbers on the beaches of Gallipoli. Note the hobnail boots, walking sticks (now back in vogue!) and what look like leather gaiters, possibly war issue. Lower image is Maulin with Sugarloaf Great & Small in the background. Both summits have large cairns with poles inserted in them, these almost certainly date to the original 1830s six inch survey.
