Thanks to Michael Chambers of Ballycroy National Park & Shramore for advising of a new signposted walking route that has recently been laid out at the popular Letterkeen trailhead near Newport in Co.Mayo.
Starting from the carpark at the Brogan Carroll Bothy, this walk follows the bank of the Black River or Holes River downstream for about a kilometre and then returns to the car park via forest tracks.
A new surfaced walking path along the river has been constructed and this short loop walk is suitable for families with young children and/or those looking for a less hilly route. Take care along the banks of the river to supervise children.
This new route is marked on our recent update to the digital Achill Nephin phone map, you can sketch it on your print maps from the detail shown here.
