Bob’s Well

This is Bob’s Well, a granite bowl that collects water where you could get a sup. This would have been for the relief of estate workers on the Coollattin Estate, Co.Wicklow going about their work. The well is named for Robert or Bob Rickerby of Ballykelly, a land steward for the Fitzwilliam Estate, who was murdered around here on 26th February 1817. Three local men were accused of his killing and the motive was supposedly related to theft of money from his office.

Bob’s Well is marked on our Wicklow South 1:25,000 map but note that it lies on private property.
